Well, I got an hour of sleep last night because I spent the night worrying about dying of heat stroke today. It's about a twelve-mile hike up a mountain and then down the other side to get to Roncesvalles. There are no water fountains until you get to the Spanish border, no cafes, stores, nothing. What if I run out of water, what if I collapse and emergency vehicles can't get there in time. What if? Yada Yada Yada. When I told Leea she laughed. She said there is no middle road for me. Either I blow it off like it's not important or I'm convinced disaster is about to happen. So, what is her point?
Then God plays one of his funny jokes. We woke up the morning and there are fog and high winds. So while it was not
cold, it definitely was not hot. And the man with the food truck was there just before we got low on water. So, not for the first time I lost sleep over a problem that didn't exist.
The trail today was beautiful. We were up above the clouds. They were so thick, it seemed like you could jump on them. And they would roll over the
mountains like ocean waves roll over rocks. It was a hard day, but we stopped often while Leea took pictures. We've met some very nice people already.
We got into Roncesvalles about 2 pm and checked into the Albergue. They gave us beds on the third for that were not bunk beds. Until about 6 pm we were the only ones on that floor. After we dropped off our packs by our we went to the restaurant to get tickets for dinner, two large café con leche, and a piece of tarta queso (cheesecake) with a berry sauce. Yummy! The we came back, I took a shower, Leea took a nap, and I took the laundry downstairs to be washed and dried. For 2.7 euros they washed, dried and folded the laundry. They also brought it up to our bed, we didn't even have to go and get it.
We both napped and then went to dinner. Hopefully, I will get some sleep tonight.
